New raceteam for Yelmer Buurman

UBBERGEN (June 19, 2020) - The continuation of the international car racing season is getting closer and that means that Yelmer Buurman from Ubbergen, Gelderland, will be able to put on his helmet again in the near future. "I can hardly wait," he admits. "Not being able to race is the worst thing for a racing driver!" Besides the planned participation in the British GT championship Buurman will mainly take part in races on the famous Nürburgring-Nordschleife. In addition, he drives for a new team, the HAUPT RACING TEAM of former DTM driver Hubert Haupt. Once again, Yelmer comes into action with the Mercedes-AMG GT3, with which he has already celebrated many great successes.

"I think it's great for Hubert Haupt that he managed to set up his own racing team," says Yelmer. "I know it is a long-cherished dream for him and he has put everything in motion to make that happen. In addition, he has gathered a lot of good and experienced people around him. Nothing has been left to chance, so I am confident that this will be a successful project. It is of course nice to be part of a new team from the start!”

Together with team owner Hubert Haupt and Nico Bastian, Yelmer will form the driver's line-up of one of a total of three new Mercedes-AMG GT3s, which HRT will deploy during the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (so far known as VLN) and the annual 24-hour race at the Nürburgring , which has been postponed to September 24-27 due to the corona pandemic . "It's great to race with Hubert and Nico again," says Yelmer. “I have been able to celebrate some great successes together with Hubert. In 2015 and 2018, for example, we won the Dubai 24 Hours together.”

On the positive side, the newly formed HRT can immediately count on extensive support from Mercedes-AMG Motorsport and has immediately received the coveted status of 'Performance Team'. They will use the new evolution of the Mercedes-AMG GT3, which in the previous version, was already good for many racing successes, including the full top four during the 24-hour race of the Nürburgring in 2016.

For Yelmer, the switch to HRT also means the departure of the Black Falcon Team, with which he was active in long-distance races for many years. "I would like to take this opportunity to thank Black Falcon for the trust and very enjoyable collaboration over the past few years," he says. “Together we have achieved great successes: the victories in Dubai and our podium places in the 24-hour races at the Nürburgring and Spa-Francorchamps, but also the title in the Blancpain Endurance Series in 2018! Black Falcon has been a big name and a fixture in international professional GT3 racing for the past ten years and it is a pity that we will not see the team there again for the time being. However, I am now looking forward to working with my new team and can hardly wait for the first race!”
