Yelmer just off the podium due to a Red-Flag situation.
Nurburgring, 18 May 2014 - During the 4th VLN race of the season Yelmer drove with both the BMW Z4 GT3 of Uwe Alzen Automotive aswel as the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 of Black Falcon. With both teams Yelmer was on his way to a podium finish but unfortunately there was a red flag situation one hour before the end of the race. Because of that Yelmer finished 5th and 8th.
Yelmer started the race in the BMW Z4 GT3 from the 12th position. After 2.5 hours of racing, he brought the car in at third place and handed over the wheel to his teammate. Half an hour later Yelmer was ready to jump in the SLS of Black Falcon. Unfortunately at that time on the Döttinger höhe straight a major accident happened which fortunately didn’t injure anyone. Almost immediately after the crash the organization decided to red-flag the race. Because over 75% of the race distance was covered it was not resumed. That was bad luck for Yelmer and his team mates because the Black Falcon team had only one more stop scheduled while most competitors had to do two.
Yelmer: "The start was pretty chaotic and in the 4th corner I had to avoid a BMW that just spun in front of me, because of that I lost some positions. After several nice battles with various factory BMWs, Audis and Porsches I could eventually bring in the car in 3rd position.
I saw the accident happen on TV while I was with my helmet on my head ready to jump in the SLS. So that was the end.. A big shame, especially since we were on course for a podium, perhaps the victory!"
